Narrative:

The IAU changed to a new 30m target. The 30m target was changed to 6mm rings. They also added Junior 30 meter events.

From 'THE BOLT' April 1988:
"Rohrbach, Austria was home to crossbow shooters 11-19 July 1987. The opening parade was ushered in by three marching bands, followed by welcoming speeches, traditional dancing, free fall parachutists unfurling flags and a fireworks display."

The IAU also added Junior (under 21) 30 meter events in addition to the existing 10 meter standing event.

Denise Loring won the silver medal with a 193 in Women's 10 meter standing opening Grand Prix event.

The USA team stayed at the Hotel Almesberger. At the Annual Meeting the following were elected as USAA Officers:
President: Bruce Meredith (He resigned in early 1988 and was replaced by VP Len Remaly.)
Vice President: Len Remaly (Replaced by Troy Baker.)
Treasurer: Jim Meredith
Secretary: Nancy Eaton
Executive Officer: Richard Neill

Richard Neill appointed Nancy Eaton, Dan Morse and Rolfe Smith to the Incorporation Committee.

Rohrbach ’87 – Seniors World Cup / Extract from Xbow magazine issue 1 (Autumn ’87 edition):
A 30-metre Seniors World Cup was staged for the first time in Rohrbach. The match (15 shots standing, 15 shots kneeling) was shot in 2 relays – Division I for those born between 1927 and 1937 (50-60), and Division II for those born before 1926 (61+).

The Division I match was a victory for newly elected IAU Vice President Bruce Meredith. A member of the US World Championship 30 metre squad, Bruce was a clear winner ahead of Germany’s Richard Sichert and Alfredo Donati. The Division II match gave newer shooters the rare opportunity to see crossbow veteran Georg Winzeler in action. Austria’s Leo Pammer led after the first 15 shots, with Robert Vangene (USA) second. Georg Winzeler came into his own with the highest score in the Kneeling phase [the Swiss speciality] which moved him into second place overall. Leo Pammer held on to win and Robert Vangene USA finished in third place. Germany’s senior squad of Sichert, Stecher and Dorner took the team award.

30m SENIOR WORLD CUP DIVISION I (born 1927-1937)(50-60) Results – 1. Bruce Meredith* USA 271 (131/140), 2. Richard Sichert Germany 266 (128/138), 3. Alfredo Donati Germany 265 (229/136), 10. Elizabeth Espointour USA 247 (113/134) – 16 competitors.

30m SENIOR WORLD CUP DIVISION II (born before 1926)(61+) Results – 1. Leo Pammer Austria 264 (130/134), 2. Georg Winzeler Switzerland 259 (120/139), 3. Robert Vangene USA 259 (126/133) - 7. Richard Neill USA 195 (94/101) - 7 competitors

30m SENIOR TEAMS Results – 1. Germany (Sichert/Stecher/Dorner) 784, Austria (Pamer/Kerschbaumer/Manner) 762 (27x10), 3. Austria (Polz/Tomitza/Stieglbauer) 762 (25x10), 4. USA (Meredith/Eberwine/Herr) 706, 5. USA (Vangene/Espointour/Neill) 701).

*Bruce Meredith had ignored a raging toothache to take the win. (From Bruce: It was a lower molar on right side which for a right-handed shooter is right next to the stock. That felt really good to shoot! I went to an old (WWII vintage guy) Austrian dentist, who looked at it and said, "raus" obviously meaning "pull it out". I wanted to get a root canal and save the tooth. They did not do that up there in the Austrian mountains. I did not get a prescription for a pain killer, which was I felt might be an illegal drug to take since IAU was blending with UIT rules. So I called long distance to my dentist in Georgia and asked for his advice. He said, "load up on aspirin". I asked, "how much is load up"? I do not recall the response or what I took, but it might have been two to four an hour. Just do not recall. I survived the shooting and made it home days later.
